Advanced Technical Training That Delivered Results When Critically Required

“Since this course we have now hosted more than ten EIT courses since 2018, via in-person, live-online, and on-demand delivery means.  All of the feedback from students has been very positive and the material deemed useful to the students in their respective duties.”

USMC (Materiel Acquisition Command)

Rob Rowan • Technical Training Coordinator

Problem

During a systems engineering approach and methodology refresh, the United States Marine Corps were looking to adopt Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) within the acquisition command.  Although there is a plethora of organizations that provide MBSE training; the vast majority focus on the “WHY” but not the “HOW”.  Rob reached out to us because they were after a training provider that focuses on “HOW” MBSE is utilized to augment and synergize the engineering development process.  Importantly, he wanted to ensure his team got an answer for “… but how does this apply to what I’m doing?”

What We Did

During our initial consultation, EIT carefully identified what mattered most to Rob and his organization.  The strong desire to focus on practical know-how with clear alignment on “HOW” MBSE is used in day-to-day operations and development process decisions allowed us to tailor our 5-day MBSE course to suit the needs. Our presentations were focused on case studies with real-world examples. Importantly, we also had plenty of structured, hands-on tutorials and workshops to use an MBSE software tool to solve authentic, albeit simplified, systems engineering problems.

Results

Rob reports that all of his staff that completed our MBSE course experienced tangible benefits upon return to the workplace.  His staff had worked through the hands-on workshops and were able to successfully transfer their knowledge from the simulated environment to real-world system design.

“I was very pleased with the quality and content provided by EIT in the Technical Leadership in Practice course.  The feedback from the NIOA staff who attended the course was excellent.  They were particularly impressed with the quality of the instructor and the excellent range of real-world examples applicable to our core business used throughout the course to bring the learning material to life.”

NIOA

Rudi Becker • General Manager Engineering

Problem

NIOA was looking to upskill senior staff from their engineering and project management teams requesting a technical leadership course that delivered outcomes aligned with NIOA’s core business. Skeptical of training programs that were heavy on theory and untethered from the practical realities of working in the defense manufacturing industry, Rudi reached out to EIT to see if we could support NIOA’s leadership training objectives. The NIOA team was varied including representatives from a number of business functions.

What We Did

During our initial consultation, EIT carefully identified what mattered most to the NIOA team. Nioa needed a program that focussed on uplifting leadership strengths within the team relevant to NIOA’s core business.  The 1-day Technical Leadership course was determined to meet all of NIOA’s professional development needs.  Our technical leadership course is expertly crafted to cultivate the unique leadership skills and techniques to lead and empower teams within challenging technical environments.  Self-assessments formed an integral part of the day, allowing team members to explore and nurture the leadership styles that maximized their potential.

Results

Rudi reports that his engineering staff plus staff from other business functions thoroughly enjoyed the course and have found ways to assimilate the learnings into their day-to-day work. The unique tailoring to the technical environment that EIT created was deemed highly relevant, allowing for a high-rate of knowledge transfer and application. The module on the different types of followers and how to optimally leverage their skills was singled out as highly instructive.

Overall this is an excellent class. I have been involved in related tracked platform design work for the last 25 years (plus some wheeled platform design previously). But this class provided me a comprehensive integrated/ organized knowledge base for learning. It was a wonderful experience!
