Course Overview

Design Success Forged Through Industry's Manufacturing and Fabrication Insights

The best idea to solve a design problem is worthless unless it can be made in the real world. Unrealistic design decisions can necessitate substantial redesign work; this often results in substantial cost and time delays for your project. Being cognizant of the manufacturing and fabrication processes that underpin design work minimizes this risk.

This 3-day course provides fundamental understanding and insight into the common manufacturing and fabrication methods utilized in modern engineering solutions. Special care is taken to highlight design considerations to reduce the need for specialist tooling, costly redesign, and other issues. This course covers a comprehensive range of topics to provide a strong foundation upon which realistic designs can be confidently pursued.

The course is designed to cater for participants who need a working level understanding of how manufacturing and fabrication processes influence design decisions and successful project outcomes. Each module focuses on balancing information delivery with robust discussion to ensure understanding and engagement. This course concludes with a workshop that allows the learner to investigate case studies, identify potential issues that arise and explore how to resolve them. Familiarity with first year university stress analysis is assumed as background knowledge for the course. Attendees receive a comprehensive set of notes.

Students receive a comprehensive set of training notes with supplementary readings materials and technical data.
